The Poetess
Beauty abounds within Sarah Hanson’s poetry collections, nestled in stark contrast within stories of childhood trauma, domestic abuse, survivorship, and resilience. Hanson’s work disrupts the narrative of performative goodness, tackling infidelity, alcohol, suicide, and the mottled legacy of generational anger with candor that is both tender and tenderizing to the reader. She refuses easy answers, accepting the mantles of both villain and victim without flinching. Hanson writes for anyone who has lived a hard story with hard choices and has ached to hear it told beautifully.

Edited by Sarah Hanson, Shaking Off The Ashes is a compelling anthology that showcases 59 previously unpublished poems from a diverse group of neurodivergent and neurotypical poets. Each poem delves into the nonlinear, often unpredictable journey of healing wounds that leave deep, invisible scars—those that can never be fully erased.
Through a range of voices and styles, the poets offer intimate reflections on the complexities of returning to oneself after pain, loss, or trauma.
